Norton's Grate

Norton's Grate is a reminder of a neat little cottage that I rented on the Bere Peninsula, apart from the adjoining farmhouse it was entirely remote, with a silence, a darkness and a brightness that suited at the time. But it was a winter let and with only a single log fired stove I spent much time wrapped in blankets staring into Norton's Grate. This was a time of separation; 14 poems on the purging of love's clutches, in a way that I now find it hard to approve of...but hey, words once spoken and all that.
